MPN Challenge™ is MPN Research Foundation’s peer-reviewed research funding program for innovative work on myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The Foundation supports research toward new treatments and ultimately a cure for essential thrombocythemia, polycythemia vera, and myelofibrosis. The program seeks high-risk, high-reward projects with potential patient impact, fostering innovation and collaboration that can lead to new treatments and approaches to managing classical MPNs.
Focus areas change each round in response to unmet research needs. Funded work has explored selective JAK2 inhibition, inflammation, immunotherapy, mutation acquisition, and iron metabolism in polycythemia vera. Recent projects address mutation-specific treatments, abnormal megakaryocytes, treatment resistance, leukemic transformation, transplant outcomes, and artificial intelligence tools for monitoring progression and guiding personalized treatment.
