Description
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) administers the Multiuse Roadway Safety Account to increase opportunities for safe, legal and environmentally acceptable motorized recreation on public roads. Eligible work includes safety engineering analysis of roads shared by wheeled all-terrain vehicles (WATVs) and other vehicles; signs alerting motorists to WATVs or crossings; WATV enforcement; and investigations of WATV accidents.
During the 2025–2027 biennium, grants to counties and cities may also support improvements or maintenance on road segments designated as WATV travel or tourism routes, and educational brochures or mapping technology that helps users navigate those routes safely. Work may involve locally, state- or federally owned roads when the responsible agency has authorized WATV use.
