Description
The Municipal Bridge Program provides federal funding through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for vehicular bridge replacement, rehabilitation, and demolition. Administered by the Division of Planning, Office of Local Programs, it supports work on bridges both on and off Federal-Aid Highways. Eligible phases include preliminary engineering and construction, including construction engineering activities such as testing and inspection.
The program addresses deteriorating bridge conditions, with replacement and demolition directed toward poor-rated bridges and rehabilitation toward fair-rated structures. Prioritization considers bridge component conditions, legally posted load limits, regional impact, and economic health. A multidisciplinary committee also reviews applications and contributes to funding decisions. Projects establish agreed delivery milestones through final inspection.
