Description
The Municipal Harbor Facility Grants Program is administered by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF). Established by the Alaska Legislature in 2006, it provides matching financial assistance to recapitalize locally owned harbor infrastructure and sustain Alaska’s public harbor system. Funding supports the construction phase of small boat harbor projects, rather than planning, design, or land acquisition.
The program prioritizes major maintenance and repair of formerly state-owned harbors now owned by municipalities or regional housing authorities. Other eligible projects include harbor replacement, expansion, and new construction. Supported work includes floats, pilings, access ramps, integral utilities, launch ramps, and safety ladders. Awards depend on annual legislative appropriations and competitive project evaluation.
