Description
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection administers Municipal Recycling Tonnage Grants through its Division of Sustainable Waste Management. The program supports municipal recycling programs and qualifying county recycling services, with awards tied to eligible material recycled during the preceding calendar year. Eligible tonnage comes from residential, commercial, and institutional sources; industrial-source tonnage does not count toward an award.
The program receives 60% of the annual balance of the State Recycling Tax Fund, which is supported by a $3-per-ton tax on solid waste accepted for disposal or transfer at New Jersey solid waste facilities. Grant funds must be spent solely on recycling activities.
