Description
The Office of Grants and Research (OGR) administers this competitive program using federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It helps Massachusetts municipal police departments address local roadway risks and reduce crashes, injuries, fatalities, and associated economic losses.
Departments may propose overtime traffic enforcement, pedestrian and bicyclist safety activities, traffic equipment, community education and outreach, or traffic safety–related officer training. The program allows departments to combine established enforcement with other approaches suited to their communities. Proposed activities must be informed by local crash data and trends, with a clear connection between the identified problem, the activity, and the expected outcome.
