    Description

The Nadia and Nicholas Nahumck Fellowship, offered by the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM), supports research on a dance-related subject and the subsequent publication of its findings. It combines a research fellowship with a publication award, linking support for scholarly investigation to dissemination of the resulting work.

The program gives preference to applicants who plan to enhance their findings with movement notations, including digital media such as photographs, video, and web-based formats, or Labanotation. Supported projects have explored dance, embodiment, identity, gender, politics, and belonging across varied cultural contexts. Past research includes hardcore punk and moshing, Irish dancers in Boston, women’s perspectives in Cambodia, and male belly dancers in Turkey.
