Funding Amounts: Two-year salaried fellowship with benefits, relocation up to $3,500, and travel/publication support
Summary: Supports early-career PhDs conducting independent, mentored, interdisciplinary research on Sun-Earth connections.
Key Information: Applicants cannot be currently affiliated with Chinese institutions and must have a U.S. research host.
Established in 2009 by NASA’s Living With a Star (LWS) program and UCAR/CPAESS, the NASA Jack Eddy Postdoctoral Fellowship trains the next generation of interdisciplinary heliophysics researchers. Named for solar researcher John A. “Jack” Eddy, the two-year fellowship pairs early-career PhDs with experienced scientists at U.S. research institutions while supporting their own independent or collaborative research.
The program addresses Sun-Earth processes that affect life and society, with particular interest in space weather and the Sun-climate connection. Preference goes to research that directly advances LWS objectives and crosses traditional boundaries among solar, heliospheric, magnetospheric, and ionospheric/upper-atmospheric science. Host scientists provide mentorship as fellows develop new collaborations, publish research results, and present their work at seminars and conferences.
