Description
The Nascher/Manning Award is presented by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), with support from the Manning family, to honor an individual’s distinguished, lifelong achievement in clinical geriatrics. Its focus is recognition of a lifetime of clinical contributions rather than support for a specified research project. The award is presented every two years, in even-numbered years.
The award commemorates Ignatz Leo Nascher, MD, who advocated for medical care for older adults to be recognized as a separate specialty and coined the term “geriatrics” in 1909. By linking lifetime clinical achievement to this pioneering work, AGS and the Manning family celebrate both the origins of geriatrics and enduring contributions to its clinical practice.
