    Description

The Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies runs ACT Mobile, a multi-phase initiative supporting collaboration on disaster-related priorities affecting health and resilience in Mobile County, Alabama. Launched in 2025, the initiative brought together local nonprofits, foundations, academia, and government to develop an evidence-based, community-driven framework of what communities need to deal with disasters.

Phase 2 implementation grants support planning grantees in putting place-based solutions into practice. The opportunity focuses on building networks for resource exchange and developing human capital through education and training. Projects should leverage relationships established during planning, strengthen community assets or residents’ capacity to use them, and assess early changes in health and resilience. Lessons learned will be shared with local stakeholders, GRP partners, and other Gulf communities.
