Description
This program provides competitive grants to non-federal researchers and organizations to advance the development and adoption of improved fishing practices and innovative gear technologies that minimize bycatch and post-release mortality in U.S. commercial and recreational fisheries, including aquaculture. The program is authorized under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act and aligns with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) National Bycatch Reduction Strategy. Bycatch reduction is critical for sustainable fisheries, conservation of threatened and endangered species, and maintaining fishery access.
