Description
The National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program is a competitive federal program co-administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Coastal Program and Office of Conservation Investment. It helps designated agencies in coastal states and territories conserve coastal wetland ecosystems for the benefit of fish, wildlife, coastal communities, and the recreating public. Results are measured in acres protected, restored, managed, and enhanced.
Projects may acquire interests in coastal lands or waters from willing sellers or partners, or restore, enhance, or manage coastal wetlands. Conservation benefits must last at least 20 years. In Washington, the Department of Ecology develops projects with potential partners, sponsors selected applications, and makes funding available to successful partners through subawards.
