Description
The National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP), administered through the Kansas Governor’s Grants Program (KGGP), supports the U.S. Department of Justice’s efforts to build an accurate and useful national system of criminal records. The program emphasizes complete computerized criminal histories that support criminal investigations, prosecutorial charging, sentencing, correctional supervision, and release decisions.
The program also supports the availability of accurate records for background checks associated with licensing, handgun purchases, child-care positions, and other responsibilities involving children, older adults, and people with disabilities. Federal funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance. In Kansas, funds are provided to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
