Description
The National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) is administered by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and presented in Rhode Island by the Public Safety Grant Administration Office. Since 1995, it has helped states work with the FBI to build an accurate, useful national system of criminal records.
NCHIP supports improvements to criminal histories and related records, including protection orders and sex offender registries, as legislative and technical requirements evolve. It also addresses the identification, collection, analysis, and interstate exchange of records concerning domestic violence and stalking. Reliable records shared across state lines inform investigations, charging and sentencing, correctional supervision and release, and background checks.
