Description
The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program provides federal funding to states for an interconnected, reliable network of electric vehicle chargers. In Michigan, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) uses competitive design-build-operate-maintain procurements to deploy charging sites. The program supports new chargers, upgrades to existing chargers and infrastructure serving light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
Michigan’s priorities include closing geographic charging gaps, supporting medium-duty vehicles and fleets, improving reliability and user experience, and promoting equitable access. The state also seeks to align charging investments with economic development, tourism and long-term electric-grid considerations. Following federal approval of Michigan’s fully built-out Alternative Fuel Corridor certification, its Round 3 procurement seeks sites within and beyond remaining gaps.
