Description
The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, established through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, funds an interconnected EV charging network that facilitates data collection, access and reliability. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) administers Michigan’s program alongside complementary efforts such as Charge Up Michigan, Lake Michigan Circuit and Clean Fuel and Charging Infrastructure.
Michigan’s Round 3 uses a Design-Build-Operate-Maintain (DBOM) delivery model for charging sites statewide. Priorities include closing geographic gaps, supporting medium-duty vehicles and fleets, improving charger reliability and user experience, promoting equitable access, and aligning investments with economic development, tourism and long-term grid considerations. Michigan’s approved “fully built out” status allows deployment beyond designated Alternative Fuel Corridors. Round 3’s scope covers the design, construction, operation and maintenance of charging sites.
