Description
The National Highway Freight Program (NHFP), administered in Washington by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), funds projects that improve the efficient movement of freight on the National Highway Freight Network. It supports infrastructure and operational improvements that preserve infrastructure, enhance safety, reduce congestion and improve reliability.
Program goals also include lowering freight transportation costs, increasing productivity, strengthening economic competitiveness and improving the safety, security and resiliency of freight transportation in rural and urban areas. Innovation and advanced technology can contribute by improving network safety, efficiency and reliability. Half of NHFP funding is dedicated to local freight projects.
