Key Information: PIs must complete NPB’s Train the Trainer Program before the grant process and include a completion certificate.
The National Pork Board’s Human Nutrition Advisory Committee supports research that advances understanding of pork and pork-related nutrients in human health. Its vision is to generate pork-specific, publishable evidence establishing pork as a nutrient-dense, whole-food protein supporting health across the lifespan. The program seeks evidence that distinguishes fresh pork from broad or processed-meat categories and clarifies nutritional composition, bioavailability, dietary roles, and health outcomes.
Four priorities guide the competition: pork nutrient profiles and health outcomes, cultural and community nutrition, bioavailability and food synergy, and epidemiological methods that distinguish meat categories. Research may include reviews, dietary modeling, culturally informed consumption analyses, cooking and meal-combination studies, clinical pilots, and improved dietary assessment methods. Projects should generate fundamental knowledge with practical relevance to human health and the U.S. pork industry, including evidence supporting credible scientific communications and claims.
