The National PTA’s Jan Harp Domene Diversity and Inclusion Awards recognize PTAs that put the association’s guiding beliefs into action: diversity is a strength, collaboration must be inclusive, and equity drives its mission. Named for National PTA President Jan Harp Domene, who served from 2007–2009, the awards honor achievements in diversity and inclusion and efforts to end discriminatory practices.
The program recognizes work to diversify PTA membership and leadership, advance equitable and just outcomes for students and families, and create inclusive PTAs and communities. Past honorees have used multilingual communications, interpretation, disability-accessible activities and targeted outreach to engage historically excluded families. Three awards are presented annually at the National PTA Convention, recognizing state, district/council/region or community, and local PTAs.
