NIGMS supports national/regional research resources providing broad access to advanced technologies and expertise for biomedical investigators.
Funder: National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Due Dates: September 25, 2025 | June 15, 2026 | June 14, 2027
Funding Amounts: No budget cap; budgets must reflect project needs. Project period up to 5 years.
Summary: Supports established or consolidated resources that provide state-of-the-art technologies, equipment, tools, or services to a substantial regional or national biomedical research user base within NIGMS mission areas.
Key Information: Clinical trials are not allowed; stand-alone data resources and clinical biospecimen repositories are not eligible.
This funding opportunity supports the operation and maintenance of National and Regional Resources (NRRs) that enable broad access to advanced technologies, equipment, research tools, materials, organisms, software, and services essential for biomedical research. The program is designed to serve a substantial user base (typically over 100 investigators) at the regional (multi-state) or national level, focusing on NIGMS-supported program areas. Resources may be already established or newly formed by consolidating existing local or regional facilities.
The intent is to provide equitable access to these resources, regardless of specific biomedical research focus, and to avoid duplicating or replacing resources funded by other NIH Institutes, Centers, or host institutions. Supported resources are expected to be maintained at current best practices, upgrade to state-of-the-art capabilities as needed, provide user training and support, and actively promote their services through outreach and a robust web presence.
This opportunity does not support major new research and development efforts, stand-alone data resources, or clinical biospecimen repositories.
