Description
The Navajo Revitalization Fund uses Utah oil and gas severance taxes from lands held in trust for the Navajo Nation and its members to create long-term benefits for Utah Navajo communities. It provides grants and loans and is intended to strengthen cooperation among the state, local governments, and the tribe.
The fund prioritizes capital projects and infrastructure, including electrical power and water; other one-time community needs; the purchase or construction of housing and significant remodeling of existing housing; and matching educational endowments that support economic development, Navajo culture, history, language, and postsecondary opportunities for Navajo students. A five-member board directs the fund, with administrative support from the Utah Department of Workforce Services’ Housing and Community Development Division.
