    Description

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Rural Health (ORH) administers this competitive program to expand access to effective, equitable telehealth services. It supports rural providers purchasing equipment, high-speed internet access, video conferencing systems, electronic medical records, secure communication tools, and other infrastructure needed for remote care. Funding also supports staff and patient training, patient technology equipment, and qualifying patient internet services.

The program emphasizes non-hospital-based telehealth for patients served in primary care and OB-GYN settings. Projects must demonstrate how they will improve health care delivery or address social determinants of health, identify their intended populations, and sustain services at funded sites. Funded telehealth involves two-way, real-time interactive audio and video that lets providers and patients see and communicate with each other.
