The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) recognizes outstanding affiliate programming that includes teachers at different stages of their careers and/or the students they serve. Administered by the Committee on Affiliates, this annual award honors distinctive programs that respond to needs expressed by affiliate members or teachers in their local contexts.
Programming may include unique conferences, student reading or writing competitions, multicultural programming, leadership development, preservice teacher development and outreach, and professional development workshops. The award also recognizes programs that nurture new leaders within state, regional, and provincial affiliates and NCTE. Its priorities include lasting effects on literacy and affiliate membership, increased affiliate visibility, stronger classroom skills for teachers, and student learning and growth.
