Description
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) presents this leadership award to recognize a person with a disability who has made significant contributions to NCTE and its professional community. Rather than funding a research project, it honors work that strengthens an inclusive organization, expands access to diverse voices, promotes cross-community connections, and supports the agency of diverse leaders.
Recognized contributions include organizational service, writing and presenting, teaching and curriculum innovation, research and other scholarly activities, and professional learning for literacy-focused communities. The award also values participation in scholarly and social justice organizations, especially disability-related communities, and work advancing disabled people in the profession, literacy activities, and public engagement.
