Description
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) administers this award to recognize a member of the LGBTQIA+ community who has made significant contributions to NCTE and the development of its professional community. It supports NCTE’s vision of an increasingly inclusive organization that provides access to diverse voices, promotes cross-community connections, and supports diverse leaders in literacy teaching and learning.
Recognition centers on organizational contributions, professional-community development, and advancement of LGBTQIA+ people. Relevant work includes NCTE service, publishing and presenting, curriculum innovation, research, leadership in scholarly or social justice organizations, and professional learning. The award also values advocacy in literacy-related activities and public engagement, including work that creates a culture of change in schools, communities, and professional organizations.
