The National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) funds original research and replication studies requiring rigorous empirical and/or theoretical analysis. The program seeks to improve financial well-being through the access, quality and impact of equitable K–12 and postsecondary financial education systems. Projects may generate new data or use existing datasets, and should contribute to the field as defined by NEFE’s Personal Finance Ecosystem.
NEFE values scholarly rigor paired with practical utility. It favors open-access academic publications alongside actionable materials for practitioners and policymakers, such as research briefs, one-pagers, executive summaries and webinars. Research should address systemic considerations and produce findings that can inform education, policy and practice—not simply develop or evaluate a specific financial education program.
