    Description

FEMA’s Individual State Earthquake Assistance (ISEA) program provides noncompetitive grants to eligible states and territories to establish earthquake hazards reduction programs and implement earthquake safety, mitigation, and resilience activities at state and local levels. Part of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) State Assistance Program, it aims to reduce risks to life and property from future earthquakes.

Supported work includes seismic mitigation planning, hazard vulnerability and risk data analysis, building and infrastructure inventories, seismic safety evaluations, and preparation for post-earthquake inspections. Funding also supports building codes and zoning ordinances, earthquake awareness and education, emergency management exercises, earthquake insurance outreach, and National Earthquake Program Managers meeting participation. Earth science research is excluded, and funded seismic planning must align with or support the state’s approved Hazard Mitigation Plan.
