NITCEE enables neurology trainees to develop bioethics expertise through a scholarly project, mentorship, and conference presentation.

--- ## Description The Neurologist-in-Training Clinical Ethics Elective (NITCEE) is designed to provide neurology residents and fellows with immersive training in clinical bioethics. Sponsored by the Ethics, Law, and Humanities Committee, the program focuses on equipping participants to address ethical challenges in clinical practice, research, and education—such as surrogate decision-making, end-of-life care, genetic counseling, and health disparities. Participants will undertake a scholarly bioethics project, receive mentorship from field leaders, and present their work as a poster at the AAN Annual Meeting. The elective also includes attendance at the Yale Foundations of Bioethics Course and offers the possibility for one participant to serve as an ex officio member of the Ethics, Law, and Humanities Committee. --- ## Due Dates - February 1, 2026: Full application deadline (applications close at 11:59 p.m. CT) --- ## Funding Amount - The program covers the cost of travel, lodging (one night), and registration for the 2027 AAN Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. - Tuition for the 2026 Yale Foundations of Bioethics Course is fully covered. - No direct stipend or salary support is provided. --- ## Eligibility - Applicants must be in an adult or child neurology residency program, or in an approved neurology subspecialty fellowship training program in the US or Canada during the 2026–2027 academic year. - Approval from the applicant’s residency or fellowship director is required. --- ## Application Process - Applications open November 1, 2025. - Submit a full application by February 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CT. - Applicants must propose a scholarly project in clinical bioethics and commit at least three weeks between May 2026–May 2027 to the program. - Regular virtual updates to the Ethics, Law, and Humanities Committee are expected. - Final presentation as a poster at the 2027 AAN Annual Meeting is required.
