Description
The Neurologist-in-Training Clinical Ethics Elective (NITCEE) is offered by the American Academy of Neurology and sponsored by its Ethics, Law, and Humanities Committee (ELHC). It supports scholarly bioethics projects and helps trainees develop skills for addressing ethical problems in education, research, and clinical practice, while preparing them to share their learning with peers and patients.
Relevant ethical challenges include surrogate decision-making for patients with aphasia or dementia, medical assistance in dying, genetic evaluation and counseling, end-of-life care, and racial and socioeconomic health disparities. Participants receive project feedback and career guidance from bioethics scholars and leaders, attend the virtual Yale Foundations of Bioethics Course, and present their work at the AAN Annual Meeting.
