Description
Mayo Clinic’s Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship in Jacksonville, Florida, combines clinical training, research, and teaching over 12 months. Fellows diagnose and manage common and rare acquired and inherited neuromuscular disorders, participate in multidisciplinary ALS, muscular dystrophy, and myositis clinics, and receive structured training in electrodiagnostic studies and neuromuscular ultrasound. An optional four-week rotation in Rochester, Minnesota, focuses on nerve and muscle pathology.
Research is integrated into the schedule, with approximately 10% protected time and at least one required research assignment. Eight neuromuscular faculty offer mentorship in clinical neurophysiology, nerve and muscle disorders, and ALS, including basic science and clinical research opportunities. Statistical support, electronic health records, and EMG databases support scholarly work. The program aims to prepare graduates for independent practice, including establishing a neurophysiology laboratory or neuromuscular clinic.
