Summary: Supports scalable neutral-atom quantum processors and complete software stacks demonstrating practical scientific and industrial applications beyond classical computing.
Key Information: Participation is restricted to entities in EU Member States or EuroHPC Participating States, with ownership-control safeguards.
This Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action, administered by EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, aims to establish European leadership in neutral-atom quantum simulation and digital quantum computing. It targets industry-ready, programmable simulators with 10,000 neutral atoms and platforms supporting analogue and gate-based operations with 1,000 physical qubits, scalable towards 10,000. Cloud access and hybrid quantum-classical workflows with high-performance computing environments should make these processors usable by researchers, industry and, where possible, non-expert users.
The action supports complete hardware and software stacks, including quantum and electronic controls, programming interfaces, verification tools, and error mitigation and correction. Projects must demonstrate at least two real-world applications beyond classical computability and address at least two neutral-atom technical challenges identified in SRIA 2030. Priorities include scalable, reliable operation, stronger European component supply chains, and adoption through training, documentation and user engagement.
