Description
The New Jersey Department of Health funds the operation and maintenance of the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System under P.L. 1982, c. 177 (NJSA 26:2-119). The program is intended to sustain a statewide source of poison expertise, treatment advice, and drug information.
The system provides immediate instructions for managing poison exposures. Its telephone service draws on pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and poison information providers who specialize in toxicology. The grant supports the capacity to respond around the clock and handle approximately 70,000 calls annually.
