Description
The New Jersey Department of Agriculture and New Jersey Wine Board support projects addressing research, development, and promotion of the state’s wine industry. Funding supports research concerning viticultural and winemaking processes in New Jersey, along with market development and promotional programs. Projects must serve the industry broadly, benefiting grape growers and wine producers rather than excluding eligible industry participants.
The program draws on the New Jersey Wine Promotion Account, funded through receipts associated with taxable wine sales by plenary and farm winery licensees. The New Jersey Wine Industry Advisory Council assesses industry conditions and recommends expenditures to the Secretary of Agriculture. Funding recommendations are subject to State Board of Agriculture approval, with proposals ranked through a competitive, 100-point review process.
