Description
New York Main Street provides financial resources and technical assistance to strengthen traditional Main Streets, historic downtowns, mixed-use neighborhood commercial districts, and village centers across New York State. The Office of Community Renewal administers the program under the Housing Trust Fund Corporation, through Homes and Community Renewal. Local governments and eligible nonprofits serve as Local Program Administrators, selecting projects and providing assistance to property owners rather than HCR contracting directly with owners.
The program supports façade and storefront renovations, commercial interior improvements, and residential rehabilitation or creation. It prioritizes mixed-use buildings, upper-story housing, historic preservation, and concentrated improvements to contiguous buildings. Downtown Anchor projects establish or expand cultural, residential, or business anchors, while Downtown Stabilization addresses barriers to redevelopment. Streetscape enhancements complement building renovations; technical assistance builds readiness for future renovation programs.
