The Arthur and Janet Holzheimer Fellowship in the History of Cartography supports projects related to cartography’s history or focused on cartographic materials in the Newberry Library’s collection. Administered through the library’s Short-Term Fellowship program, it provides one month of intensive research in Chicago and participation in the Newberry’s scholarly community.
The broader program supports collection-based research by scholars who need to investigate specific Newberry holdings. Applicants may work in any field, but must demonstrate why particular collection items are important to their project. The Holzheimer fellowship directs this support toward cartographic research and sources. Applicants submit the general Short-Term Fellowship application; they do not need to opt into this named award or answer additional fellowship-specific questions.
