    Description

This opportunity, administered by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is designed to help postdoctoral researchers transition to independent, tenure-track faculty positions and launch successful biomedical research careers. The award provides two years of support for newly trained investigators to establish their own research programs at U.S. institutions. This program does not allow applicants to lead independent clinical trials, but gaining experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor is permitted.

The program is intended to facilitate the establishment of a record of independent research, enabling recipients to compete for major research grants (e.g., NIH R01) in the future. The award is activated only after the candidate secures a qualifying independent position.
