The Nicholas Bacopoulos and Calypso Gounti Fellowships support research at the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA). They fund work addressing substantive problems relating to the ancient Greek world and adjacent areas through interdisciplinary methods in the archaeological sciences.
The laboratory is especially equipped for human skeletal biology, archaeobiological remains—including faunal and botanical remains—environmental studies, geoarchaeology, and ancient materials studies. Its geoarchaeological strengths include human-landscape interactions and site-formation processes. Fellows conduct their research within the laboratory and the wider Athens-based ASCSA community.
