The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the NIH, is continuing its support for the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Genetics Consortium (IBDGC) through a dedicated Data Coordinating Center (DCC). The IBDGC has played a leading role in identifying over 300 genetic risk loci for various IBD subtypes and furthering understanding of disease mechanisms. Despite these advances, IBD remains a chronic, heterogeneous disease with no cure, and there is an ongoing need for improved biomarkers and predictors of disease outcomes.
