Description
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), part of NIH, supports well-designed, investigator-initiated clinical trials to identify effective interventions for treating or preventing communication disorders. The program covers hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, and language, with the goal of advancing interventions into standard clinical care.
This U01 cooperative agreement is intended for trials requiring FDA oversight, formally establishing efficacy, or presenting higher potential risks to participants. Examples include pivotal or NIH-defined Phase III trials, non-routine interventions, unlicensed products or devices, and licensed products used for unapproved indications. These trials receive close interaction, oversight, and guidance from an NIDCD Project Scientist while investigators retain primary responsibility for the research.
