Description
NIH’s Parent R25 supports research education programs primarily focused on mentored research experiences. Programs should complement formal training, stimulate participants’ interest and research skills, recruit people with specialty or disciplinary backgrounds into research careers, and improve understanding of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research. Experiences should include complementary scientific development activities, such as scientific writing, presentations, and instruction in rigor and reproducibility.
Programs may serve students, science teachers, postbaccalaureate researchers, graduate and health professional students, postdoctoral scholars, clinical trainees, and investigators. Structures may range from summer experiences to academic-year or multiyear programs. Applications must align with a participating NIH Institute, Center, or Office’s mission and current priorities. Mentoring, courses, curriculum development, and outreach may be secondary elements, but should not be the primary focus.
