Summary: Supports clinical trials testing innovative SBIRT/P approaches for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in adult populations experiencing health disparities.
Key Information: Clinical trial required; projects must focus on NIH-designated health disparity populations; foreign organizations are not eligible to apply.
This opportunity, offered by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), funds research projects that develop and prospectively test innovative approaches to implementing Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment or Prevention (SBIRT/P) for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) use and misuse in adult populations experiencing health disparities. SBIRT/P involves screening individuals for ATOD risk, providing brief interventions, and referring for treatment or preventive services as needed. The program aims to address barriers to effective implementation and scale-up of SBIRT/P, particularly in populations with documented health disparities.
Projects must include a clinical trial and are expected to engage healthcare and community partners to enhance the acceptability, feasibility, and sustainability of SBIRT/P interventions. The research should improve health outcomes at the individual, organizational, or community level.
All applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization. See the NIH standard due dates for the full schedule.
