Description

This opportunity, offered by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), funds research projects that develop and prospectively test innovative approaches to implementing Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment or Prevention (SBIRT/P) for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) use and misuse in adult populations experiencing health disparities. Funding Amount

• Budget: No specific budget limit; budgets must be appropriate to the scope of the proposed project.
• Project Period: Up to 5 years.
• Direct Costs: Applications requesting $500,000 or more in direct costs in any year must contact a Scientific/Research Contact at least 6 weeks before submission.

• Eligible Applicants:

  • Public and private institutions of higher education
  • Nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status)
  • For-profit organizations (including small businesses)
  • State, county, city, township, and special district governments
  • Independent school districts
  • Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
  • Native American tribal governments (federally recognized and other)
  • Native American tribal organizations (other than federally recognized)
  • Faith-based and community-based organizations
  • Regional organizations
  • U.S. territories and possessions
  • Eligible agencies of the federal government

• Ineligible:

  • Non-U.S. (foreign) organizations and non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply.
  • Foreign components, as defined by NIH, may be included in U.S. applications.

• Key Requirements:

  • Projects must focus on NIH-designated populations experiencing health disparities.
  • Only applications proposing clinical trials are accepted.
