This NIH opportunity supports research capacity building at eligible higher education institutions by funding investigator-initiated biomedical research in basic, social, clinical, behavioral, or translational science. The SuRE-First Award is specifically designed for full-time faculty at resource-limited institutions who have never held independent, peer-reviewed, external research grants. The program aims to enhance institutional scientific culture, foster independent research careers, and provide undergraduates and/or graduate students with meaningful research experiences. Projects must be relevant to the NIH mission and actively involve students in research.
