Description
This program, administered by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), supports exploratory and developmental (R21) research projects that aim to improve occupational safety and health. The primary objectives are to:
- Identify risks and conditions linked to workplace health issues.
- Develop strategies to reduce risks and limit exposure to hazardous environments.
- Translate significant scientific discoveries into effective prevention measures and products to reduce work-related illnesses and injuries.
Funded projects are expected to pursue innovative scientific concepts, new model systems, or tools and technologies with the potential for significant impact in occupational safety and health. Proposals should clearly describe the occupational health burden addressed, how the research will directly contribute to alleviating this burden, and outline expected outcomes and long-term impacts.
