Description
The New Hampshire Department of Education’s Bureau of Instructional Support administers this federal Title IV, Part B program to raise student academic achievement through the creation and expansion of community learning centers. Centers reinforce classroom learning through tutoring, mentoring, homework help, science and technology, community service, music, arts, sports, and cultural activities. They also offer participating students’ families literacy education and related educational development opportunities.
The program focuses on students attending schools needing improvement and students at risk of academic failure. Activities must respond to students’ academic needs and align with state and local academic standards. NHED also awards competitive priority points for serving middle and high school students, first-time applicants, career exploration, and work-based learning. Community needs assessments, measurable outcomes, and periodic evaluation guide program design and improvement.
