The New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), supports the continued provision of Designated Screening Services, also known as psychiatric emergency services, in Burlington, Cumberland, Hunterdon, Mercer, Morris, and Sussex counties. The program serves people who may be approaching or are experiencing a psychiatric crisis, with an emphasis on prompt assessment, crisis intervention, and referral.
Funded county-based programs must provide these services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each program must also operate a 24-hour hotline, with trained clinical staff answering calls at all times. DMHAS anticipates selecting one provider for each of the six county service areas.
