The New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development’s Office of Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning administers this competitive NJBUILD program to reduce economic barriers to construction careers for women veterans and minority veterans. It supports occupational instruction, workforce readiness, job shadowing, industry-recognized credentials, and supportive services leading to Registered Apprenticeships or full-time, long-term employment.
Grantees work with employers and Registered Apprenticeship sponsors to align training with hiring needs and support participants after placement. Eligible occupations include skilled trades and construction-related administrative, support, operational, and professional roles. Clean energy and lead abatement training are encouraged, as is the pre-apprenticeship-to-Registered-Apprenticeship model. The program aims both to improve participants’ economic self-sufficiency and to meet contractors’, businesses’, and trade unions’ workforce needs.
