Summary: Supports early-career nurse researchers improving pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant and cellular therapy experiences and outcomes.
Key Information: Applicants must practice pediatric allogeneic HCT and hold a position at a U.S.-based research, medical, or academic facility.
The NMDP Barbara Buchbinder Nurse Research Program supports nursing research that improves the transplant experience and outcomes for children needing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT). The program recognizes the specialized care children require as they grow physically, socially, and psychologically. It supports early-career nurse researchers and seeks to attract new nursing talent to pediatric transplant research.
Eligible work includes translational, observational, interventional, supportive care, and survivorship clinical research relevant to pediatric allogeneic HCT or cellular therapy. Supportive care and survivorship applications are preferred. Ancillary laboratory studies conducted alongside a prospective human clinical trial are also eligible, but animal-based or exclusively laboratory-based research is not supported. First awarded in 2024, the program was established through a philanthropic gift honoring Barbara Buchbinder’s more than 20 years in pediatric hematology/oncology and HCT nursing.
