Description
The California State Water Resources Control Board administers this program with funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under section 319 of the Clean Water Act. It supports work that reduces pollutants such as sediment, pesticides, and nutrients in California waters. Most funding is directed toward improving impaired waters, including work that implements Total Maximum Daily Loads; some supports protection of high-quality waters.
The 2027 cycle considers watershed planning, on-the-ground implementation, and post-fire recovery. Examples include agricultural runoff controls, livestock fencing and off-stream watering, forest road improvements, stream and riparian restoration, and manure management at dairies and equestrian facilities. Regional Water Boards identify priority waterbodies, pollutants, and project types in the program guidelines.
