Description
The Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) is a competitive federal program offered through FEMA and administered in Michigan by the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD). It supports physical and cybersecurity enhancements, facility hardening, and other security-related activities for nonprofit organizations at high risk of terrorist or other extremist attack.
The program seeks to close security gaps identified in facility vulnerability assessments while integrating nonprofit preparedness with broader state and local efforts. Supported work includes security equipment, planning, training, exercises, and contracted security personnel. Two funding streams serve different geographic areas: NSGP–Urban Area supports nonprofits within Michigan’s designated urban area, while NSGP–State supports those elsewhere in Michigan. Nonprofits apply through MSP/EMHSD, which submits the statewide application to FEMA.
