Description
The North Carolina Land and Water Fund supports conservation and restoration across North Carolina. Administered by the North Carolina Department of Natural & Cultural Resources through Land and Water Stewardship, the program funds work to enhance or restore degraded waters and protect waters that remain unpolluted. It also supports a network of riparian buffers and greenways with environmental, educational, and recreational benefits.
The fund’s conservation scope includes buffers around military bases to protect the military mission, acquisition of land representing North Carolina’s ecological diversity, and acquisition of land contributing to a balanced State program of historic properties. Formerly the Clean Water Management Trust Fund, it was created by the General Assembly in 1996.
