Description
The North Carolina Science Museums Grant Program provides operational support to eligible museums across North Carolina. It is funded by the North Carolina Department of Natural & Cultural Resources and administered by its Museum of Natural Sciences division. The program supports museum operations rather than a separately described research or project initiative, with awards governed by criteria established under G.S. 143B-135.227.
The award framework considers museums’ local economic circumstances, sources of operating revenue, attendance relative to the population served, collaboration with other North Carolina museums, and proximity to other science or STEM education museums. It gives priority to museums in more economically distressed counties and those generating a larger share of operating funds from non-State revenue. Sharing exhibits, programs, or other activities with museums in the state is also an award consideration.
