Description
Oregon Community Foundation’s Northwest Neighborhoods Parks & Recreation Fund supports capital development and renovation of parks and recreation facilities in the northwest section of Portland. Projects should improve opportunities for community recreation. Preference is given to projects within the boundaries of the Northwest District Association, Northwest Industrial Business Association, and Hillside Neighborhood Association. The fund considers projects offering public/private collaboration and leveraging financial, volunteer, and in-kind community resources.
The fund originated from a 1974 agreement between Oregon and Portland to generate recreation revenue from subleased property beneath the I-405 access to the Fremont Bridge. It transferred to Oregon Community Foundation in 1994. A Technical Advisory Committee recommends projects for final approval by the foundation’s board of directors.
